You will find information on who you should contact for birds with other colour combinations on "European colour-ring Birding" www.cr-birding.be. A metal ring should be reported to Stavanger Museum at this site: www.nhm.uio.no/fagene/zoologi/fugl/ringmerking/Rapport_gjenfunn.htm

Purple Sandpipers with orange flag.
About 660 Purple Sandpipers were colour flagged on the South Cape, Spitzbergen in the summer and autumn 2009. Left tarsus metal ring. Left tibea yellow colour ring. Right tibea orange flag engraved with three black letters. If you see a flock of Purple Sandpipers can you please check if any are marked. If there is a orange flag try and read off the letters. Read from left to right whichever way the flag is pointing. If possible please document the sighting with a photo..
Read more about the project here.

Red Knots with yellow flag.
In May 2006-2009 ca 1,800 Red Knots were colour ringed in Porsangerfjord, north Norway. There is a yellow flag engraved with three black letters on the left tibea and a red ring on the right tibea. Over 40 birds have been sighted in north Norway away from Porsangerfjord and over 100 abroad.

Please send observations to Jim Wilson jimwils@frisurf.no (Adresse: Sandneset, 8380 Ramberg Tel 952 81 888). If it is not possible to read off the letters we are still interested in receiving observations of birds with a yellow flag.

Results from the project are published in December each year in the Wader Study Group Bulletin - the international journal of shorebird science. Read more here.

Do you have a colour ringing project?
There will be more projects included here in the near future. If you have a project that you want to promote on these pages, please contact administrator cr@ringmerking.net. The only demand is that every bird has its individual colour code and that EURING-agreement is needed in order to avoid overlapping projects (www.cr-birding.be). The projects on this page are mainly Norwegian, but other projects can be assessed.

Proposals for improvements
This site will be regularly updated. If you have suggestions to things that can be improved or any good ideas, please contact cr@ringmerking.net.
